MirandaIM是一个开源的支持多协议的传讯软件，与很多其他类似软件如Gaim、Trillian等不同的是本软件所有协议支持、功能扩 展、外观设定等均由不同插件完成，带来更多DIY乐趣同时也有更多冲突，所以，使用本软件你必须拿出儿童搭积木的动手能力和创造性，这样才能真正用好这个 软件。
通过安装插件可以使Miranda IM支持例如ICQ、AIM、MSN、Jabber（gtalk使用的协议）、Yahoo、Gadu-Gadu、Netsend、QQ以及其他一些协议。
